What is an implant?
How does it work?
Implants are small devices,
the size of a tooth root,
made out of titanium. They are placed
gently, each into a bone "socket", carefully
drilled at the precise location of the
intended tooth.
They are then left in place
until full integration (ie. close union) with
the bone develops. Having achieved
integration, they are ready to support
replacement teeth. A post (or abutment) is
attached to each implant and following
impression taking, the intended replacement
(crown, bridge) is made in the laboratory
and fixed onto the implant/post
structure(s). |
